Find your niche superpower

Everyone has a super power, or something they do extremely well, and this post is about how to find your niche. Even you have a super power but if you’re like most people, you probably can’t see it for yourself. So, if you can’t find the answer ask your firends, your partner or those who know you well.

People tend to undervalue those things that come easiest or are closest to them , including their own ability. Everything you have watched, read, observed, experienced and battled through has brough you to this moment. You are the only person in this world who has that unique experience and perspective. In other words, no one is you-er than you.

Find Your Niche

Pay attention to 3 things when you are trying to find your niche:

  • 1. What are you passionate about?
  • 2. What do you have a unique ability or set of skills to do?
  • 3. What will you get the most reward from , either financially or otherwise?

Daniel Priestley , in his book: Key Person of Influence, explains everyone has a unique combination of knowledge , skills and experience.

  • what do people ask for your help with?
  • What do you know, that others do not, but would like to know?
  • What have you achieved , which others might need help to do?
  • What have you done in life that others might want to experience?
  • What challenges have you been through, which others might need help with?

Your Passion Matters

Passion matters because you need to find the drive to get up every day and work on your business. You need to be excited about what you do or eventually you won’t put in the effort required.

Ability is so important because you need to be able to deliver a superior product or service to your competitors . If you don’t, either your competitors will overtake you or your prices and margins will decline.

Further to ability, you need to be unique. It is not the abilities you have that are the same as everyone else that add most value. Rather it is the abilities that only you possess.

Best in the World

In Good to Great, Jim Collins poses the question , “What can you be the best in the world at?” Indeed , Jim’s question can be a little bit intimidating if you at the world as a massive, un-differentiated market. But what if we change the question?

What can you be the best in your world at? You see, the internet has given rise to many specialist markets. All you need to do is find your niche. Maybe instead of trying to make the best hamburger in the world, you could start making the best vegan burger, low fat burger, spicy burger, mess free burger (for people who don’t want sauce down the front of their suit). In any market, there are all sorts of possibilities.

Find Your Niche, Find Your Reward

Whatever you choose to do, you need to be rewarded for it. while your reward may not be completely financial , it needs to be financial enough to sustain your business.

Thankfully, there are all sorts of ways to discover if there is already demand for your product or service. Importantly , you need to realise there is a difference between what people say they want and what they have the capacity and willingness to pay money for.

On the flip side of demand is supply. If too many businesses supply the same product or service in a single market , demand for any one of those suppliers goes down because there are too many options.

Everyone has a super power, even you. The trick to find your niche is to find your own unique superpower and where you fit in the world. Building a sustainable business from your super power is most likely it can find the sweet spot where your passion , ability and rewards intersect.
